The Athabasca Health Authority’s Mental Health and Addiction (MHA) Department provide robust services including but not limited to psychiatry, psychology, addiction supports, adult mental health, child and youth mental health nursing, counseling services and mental health wellness and recovery services. Every worker has brought a wealth of knowledge in the field of Mental Health & Addictions to the Athabasca Region.
Our mental health and addictions staff and contractors work as a team alongside the primary health care team and local schools. A full continuum of care is provided by the team, in addition to partnering with other agencies to ensure that outreach programs, workshops, school presentations and evening activities are most effective.
Addictions Program
Our goal is to provide a collaborative and excellent service to our highly valued clients. We offer three pathways that may be recommended for any identified clients based on needs:
Inpatient treatment
- Apply in person or by referral
- Treatment period depends on the treatment center – usually 1-6 weeks
- Certificate of completion may be given by the treatment center
Community Addictions Recovery Group (CARG) - Recovery groups
- Apply in person or by referral
- Weekly meetings – check the Addiction programs calendar per community
- CARG recovery group treatment period depends on the client’s needs and the assigned group.
- Attendance is strictly recommended – three (3) unexcused absences may lead to discontinuation, a re-enrollment into the program, and or recommendation for another pathway.
- Certificate of completion is presented following the successful completion of the program.
MATRIX program – health literacy and education on addiction prevention and management
- Apply in person, self-referral, and by referral
- Individual and group sessions.
- One on one outpatient treatment program.
