Black Lake is the largest community in the Athabasca Health Authority area. The population is approximately 1700. The demographics reveal a very young population. There are approximately 400 children in the school. There is an average of 35 births per year and again prenatal moms are sent to Prince Albert for delivery.
The Primary Health Center is staffed with 4 primary care nurses and one home care nurse as well as support staff. Support staff are employed by the Band. Mandatory programs, regular clinic hours and 24 hours emergency services are provided from this very busy center.
Physician services are provided two days per week. Client visits to the clinic average 1200 per month.
Access to the community is by air to Stony Rapids and then by road. A seasonal road is available from Lac La Ronge to Stony Rapids but is not always passable
