ATHABASCA HEALTH AUTHORITY INC. Requires A
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
The Athabasca Health Authority Inc. (AHA) is the regional health services organization for the Fond du Lac and Black Lake Denesuline First Nations and the provincial communities of Camsell Portage, Uranium City and Stony Rapids. AHA provides a comprehensive range of integrated community-based and in-patient health services to the residents of the Athabasca region and selective services to Hatchet Lake Denesuline First Nation.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible to the AHA Board of Directors who are appointed and are accountable to the Denesuline First Nations and provincial community governments that form the membership of the non-profit corporation. The office of the CEO is located in the Athabasca Health Facility (regional headquarters) on the Chicken Reserve of the Black Lake Denesuline First Nation, adjacent to the provincial hamlet of Stony Rapids.
The AHA Board invites Candidates that embrace the AHA vision of Healthy People – Healthy Land, where wellness is a shared responsibility of communities, families, individuals and service providers. The CEO provides leadership and direction to AHA management and staff in the development, innovation, management and assessment of a unique and dynamic health services organization, supported by First Nation, federal and provincial governments.
The successful Candidate will possess:
- Experience as a CEO in a community-based public service organization comparable to AHA (minimum 3 years)
- Experience as a health services senior manager (minimum3 years)
- Experience working in aboriginal, First Nation and northern communities
- A university degree (Master’s level preferred) in a health science field or health administration or combination of training and experience
- Knowledge of comprehensive and integrated health delivery models and federal-provincial-First Nation health management, funding and accountability systems
- Knowledge of the Athabasca region; its cultures, challenges and languages (Dene)
- Demonstrated ability to work with community-based Boards and organizations
- Demonstrated leadership, team building, community development and advocacy skills
- An interest in community recreation, cultural, social and family activities
- Willingness to make a long-term commitment to AHA and the Athabasca region (minimum 5 years) and reside in the Athabasca region.
